Early Education
Fostering Development
through the Arts
This training program
for teachers and children focuses on the healthy development of the young
child. The arts therapists model arts activities in the classroom and
consult with the staff and facility director. Topics that best address
the needs of the classroom and children are identified and explored through
music, movement, drama, and visual art forms. Some of these topics include:
behavioral management; identifying special needs; inclusion; development
of social skills; self-esteem; and conflict resolution. Teachers learn
to develop and strengthen curriculum that deals with important issues
in the classroom.
Raising Readers Through
the Arts
RrtA prepares children to learn
to read through building strong foundational skills in the home, daycare
and preschool settings. Literacy environments are created which empower
parents and teachers to: support the acquisition of the pre-requisite
‘building blocks’ necessary for learning how to read with
children; participate in their children’s literacy development;
and integrate phonological games, songs, and whole-language activities
into their curriculum. This is a training program that brings parents,
children, and teachers together in a fun-filled learning environment.
Inclusion through the
Arts
Our arts therapists work with
teachers and childcare professionals to promote inclusionary programs
for children with special needs. Our staff will find the best ways to
integrate children with physical, developmental or psychological disabilities
while meeting the needs of all of the children in the classroom.
Support Services for
Children
Arts therapists provide both
individual and small group therapy to children outside their classroom.
Support services also include family therapy, on-site in-classroom support
for the child, and other referrals as needed. Components include:
observation and assessment, treatment plan and services, classroom support
(technical assistance and training for teachers).
School-Based Expressive
Arts Therapy
Children in pre-school, daycare,
and early learning centers are referred to our expressive therapy groups
for emotional / behavioral or learning issues. Our therapists make in-classroom
observations and consult with teachers and parents to develop coping strategies
using creative arts activities. Goals for group include: enhanced communication,
social skills and self-regulation.
