WSHC Arts Therapy is proud to announce

Creative Arts Therapy for Individuals with Special Needs
CHAMPS (Children Have Arts and Music Programs)
after-school programs are held throughout Eastern Massachusetts for children
and teens, many of whom area challenged physically, developmentally, and
emotionally. These music, movement, drama and art groups are led by qualified
arts therapists who know how to "draw out the best" in children. Programs
address life skills needed for: communicating thoughts and feelings; realizing
one's strengths; increasing attention; building peer relationships. Classes
include 4 to 8 children, small enough to provide an intensive, fun-filled
learning experience for all.
The music therapy groups involve singing, rhythm instrument playing, musical games, and dancing that encourage listening skills, musical improvisation, community building and creativity. The therapist is able to encourage success through fun and engaging group musical activities. The therapist will create a structure that can be followed each week but is also flexible enough to include different abilities and individual interests. NO MUSICAL ABILITY IS REQUIRED TO ATTEND.
The dance/movement therapy groups involve structured movement activities that encourage exploration of body awareness and space. The therapist often uses props and music to encourage dancing and creative self expression. The therapist is able to adapt activities to meet the needs of all group members and include those with limited mobility. NO DANCE ABILITY IS REQUIRED TO ATTEND.
The art therapy groups involve projects that encourage creativity and sensory exploration such as collage, paint, drawing, and crafts. Often, the emphasis is on the art process rather than making a perfect product at the end. The therapist is able to encourage success through projects that include everyone. NO ARTISTIC ABILITY IS REQUIRED TO ATTEND.
Current CHAMPS program locations: Arlington, Boston, Bedford, Brockton, Danvers, Franklin, Lawrence
